     Series  1 Week 8                         ENCOURAGEMENT                           Text  1 Samuel 30:6

 

“But David encouraged (strengthened) himself in the Lord his God.”

 

David has just returned from battle and discovered that the enemy had attacked his camp, taken all the goods and run off with all the wives and children. David’s men are angry and are even talking about stoning him.

Wasn’t this enough to cause David to be very disturbed?  So, how did David face this crisis?

The Bible says, “He encouraged himself in the Lord!”

 

A CRISIS DOESN’T MAKE A MAN – A CRISIS  REVEALS WHAT A  MAN IS MADE OF!

Character is not built in the crisis experiences of life. Character is built in the day by day experiences; the little decisions and actions that never attract attention, but what we really are is revealed for everyone to see when a crisis comes our way.

How did David’s men react? Some sat and wept; others complained and blamed David; some even suggested that they stone him.

How that would have solved the problem, we don’t know, but it is the same today. How easy in a crisis to blame somebody else, to look for a scapegoat.

What did David do? Well, he shed tears – he loved his family, but after that he stopped feeling sorry for himself and turned to the Lord for help. “David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”

 

Is it the same for you and me? OF COURSE IT IS!

No matter what the crisis, the Lord can carry us through. Nothing is impossible for God. We read the words, we sing the song, but in a crisis we forget. THERE IS NO PROLEM IN LIFE THAT IS TOO DIFFICULT FOR THE LORD TO SOLVE.

 

So, should a crisis overtake you, do what David did, take strength and encouragement from the Lord and you will be given the same as David, “David recovered all that the enemy had taken away” [verse 19]
